The First Easter

THE UNHEARD CONVERSATION

After Jesus was crucified Joseph of Arimathaea went to Pilate and begged the body of Jesus and subsequently had him buried in his own tomb. In order for someone to take possession of the body they would have had to have been a relative, and for Joseph to be allowed a personal audience with Pilate, he would have been a citizen of some wealth and social standing. This is the exchange between the two men as it might have occurred at the time. “So, Joe,” inquired Pilate, “you want to take the body of the Jesus and put him in your own tomb? You are a very rich man, you purchased that tomb for you and your family and you are willing to put this “thief” in your family burial place?”

Joseph answered, “Why not, it’s only for the weekend.”

Have a Blessed Easter.
