Pressure time

We have had a busy weekend. On Friday we started a new project....thought this would be a "slam dunk"...
The ceiling in our den was the last "big ugly" in the main part of the house.  Ugly, ugly, ugly blue paint, cracked and actually large exposed raw wood from previous water damage.  It was the one glaring ugly that I really was ready to say goodbye to.  When I suggested to Pat that it could be our next "project", he jumped right into it.

Friday he brought home the materials, put up some pressed foam insulation (It's a "man" thing.  "We need to increase the R value there", I think it's increased by 4%??? )  Even the pink foam board with the Corning Label was an improvement.  Saturday we began installing "tongue and groove" pine.  Not an easy task considering we have a 12' span and a slightly bowed ceiling.  It was pretty intense in a few places.  By early afternoon I realized this was no longer a "slam dunk" project and we were truly "in over our heads", but as Pat often says "You can't say whoa in a horse race".

Due to sheer exhaustion we called it an evening and decided to wait til Sunday to finish the thing. Really hate to have this kind of work for Sunday.  We had company coming on Monday so we really needed to "get 'er done".

We decided to put up the few remaining boards before church then we would have time to clean up and get the house in order for our arriving guests, on Monday (did I say, Monday).  I had decided to paint a few pieces of exposed blue wall while I was at it, really hate that blue.  So there I was up on the ladder, paint brush in hand, when the phone rang.   Our guests were just over 2 hours away and headed to our house.
You know that "dream" you have, you're trying to run and just can't move??? Yea, that's the feeling.
I didn't panic, I don't think I panicked, maybe I panicked a little.....But I did start really moving.

Fortunately those last few boards went in really easy.  I got two coats of paint on those small areas.
I began to clean up and move stuff back in place as Pat was putting the last few small pieces on the large skylight in there.  I was really moving fast at this time.

We got the den back together, got the house swept, vacuumed, dusted.  Even got a shower and the dishes done in the sink......our guests took a little longer to make that 2 hour trip and we managed to "redeem the time".  I've been told that I function well under pressure.......so guess I still have that trait.

We're having a great visit with friends we met over 25 years ago in Washington.  We haven't seen them for about 15 years.  ( And you know....they didn't come to see our house, they came to see us!)

It's amazing what we can do when we're under the gun. Some how we become more focused and can accomplish more in less time. Enjoy your company.
