Legacy

It has been an interesting week for me.  I have just completed an awesome bible study on the old testament book of "Ruth".  Most people think of this book as a wonderful love story that just happened to make it's way into the Bible.  It is a wonderful love story, but it didn't "just happen" to be added to the scriptures.  God never "just happened" to do anything. I believe the Bible to be the inspired word of God and He purposed each and every word printed.  Maybe you could take a few minutes and read "Ruth". It is only 4 chapters and good reading.

On Wednesday we attended a funeral for a young man, Shannon,  from our church.  The pastor delivered a very thought provoking message.  His text was taken from Ecclesiates.  Many of you would recognize a much used portion from chapter 3: To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven.
A time to be born, and a time to die, etc.
Then he moved to chapter 11 verse 3: If the clouds are full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth; and if a tree falls to the south or the north, in the place where the tree falls, there it shall lie.
"Today", he says, "Shannon lies here fallen.  His tree has landed where it will stay.  And where will your "tree" fall, where will your life lay? What will be your testimony?"

I put these two thoughts together, Ruth and Ecclesiates, because Ruth left a legacy as well as Shannon.  I consider my "legacy".  The pastor challenged the young people with where their hearts are with the Lord and challenged the parents about our responsibility.  I considered my life.  What will be my legacy?
Will my children rise up and call me blessed?
Will they see the power of God in my life?
Will my accomplishments overshadow my faith?
Lord, I need to make wise use of my life - to establish a lasting testimony to all I leave behind.
When my "tree" falls where will it lay?
